Adobe Acrobat
A suite of applications to create and view PDF files.

Aliasing
The term is commonly applied to spatial aliasing, which manifests as visible pixelation - a blocky or jagged effect.

Animated Gif
A special type of GIF file. They give the impression of a video. A collection of GIF’s presented one after another, each picture slightly different from the previous one. Think of a digital flip book.

Anti-aliasing
You can change the on-screen appearance of text by smoothing the font edges. Anti-aliasing fills jagged pixels with intermediate color or shades of gray to increase clarity. The effect is easier to view on large fonts or by zooming in on the text.

Applet
An applet is a small Java program that can be embedded in an HTML page. Applets differ from full-fledged Javva application in that they aren’t allowed to access certain resources on the local computer, such as files and serial devices (modems, printers, etc.), and are prohibited from communicating with most other computers across a network. The current rule is that an applet can only connect to the computer from which it was sent.

Architecture

In typography, the baseline is the imaginary horizontal line upon which the main body of the letters sits.

Bleed
An element that is designed to extend to the edge of the page. To print a bleed, the publication is printed on over-sized paper which is then trimmed to the actual final size. When creating the original document, an element that bleeds will actually be extended past the final trim size.
